Description

The Steak Egg Cheese Bagel is the ultimate breakfast sandwich combining thinly sliced, perfectly seared steak, rich cheesy eggs, and toasted everything bagels. This satisfying recipe is quick to prepare and customizable with optional toppings like caramelized onions, hot sauce, or sriracha mayo, creating a hearty and flavorful morning meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Bagel and Cheese

  • 2 Everything Bagels, split
  • 4 slices Cheddar Cheese (or your favorite cheese)

Steak

  • 8 oz Steak, thinly sliced (Ribeye or Sirloin recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch garlic powder or onion powder for seasoning

Eggs

  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper to taste

Optional Toppings

  • Hot sauce, for serving
  • Caramelized Onions
  • Sriracha Mayo

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: If your steak isn’t already thinly sliced, partially freeze it for about 30 minutes to firm it up, then slice into thin strips about 1/8 inch thick for quick and even cooking.
  2. Season the Steak: Toss the sliced steak with a generous pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Optionally, add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to enhance the flavor.
  3. Heat the Pan: Warm olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot to ensure a good sear on the steak.
  4. Cook the Steak: Add steak slices in a single layer to the hot skillet without overcrowding. Cook steak for 1-2 minutes per side until nicely browned and cooked to preferred doneness. Cook in batches if needed.
  5. Rest the Steak: Remove steak from skillet, transfer to a plate, and loosely tent with foil to keep warm while juices redistribute.
  6. Cook the Eggs: In the same or a separate non-stick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Crack eggs into skillet and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up, over easy, over medium, or over hard).
  7. Season and Add Cheese: Season eggs with salt and pepper, then during the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each egg. Cover the skillet to melt cheese thoroughly.
  8. Toast the Bagels: While the eggs cook, toast bagel halves until crisp and golden.
  9. Assemble the Sandwiches: Place bagel bottoms on plates, evenly distribute the cooked steak over each, then top each with a cheesy egg.
  10. Add Optional Toppings: If desired, layer on caramelized onions, hot sauce, or sriracha mayo to enhance flavor.
  11. Finish and Serve: Place the top halves of the bagels over the eggs and steak to form sandwiches. Serve immediately while warm and the cheese is melty.

Notes

  • Partially freezing the steak makes thin slicing much easier.
  • Do not overcrowd the skillet when cooking steak to ensure proper searing instead of steaming.
  • Resting steak after cooking enhances juiciness and tenderness.
  • Covering the eggs with a lid helps the cheese melt faster.
  • Customize with your favorite cheese and toppings to vary flavor and texture.
  • Cooking eggs to preferred doneness allows you to control yolk consistency.
  • Use a high-quality everything bagel for the best texture and flavor contrast.
