Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 10 frozen puff pastry squares, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Filling and Toppings
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Granulated garlic, to taste
- 4-6 jalapeños, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Colby Jack cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Take each thawed puff pastry square and fold it corner to corner to form a triangle. Make two slits on either side of the triangle to create a ‘kite’ shape, which will help the pastry puff nicely and create an attractive look. Place each shaped pastry onto the lined baking sheets.
- Assemble Danishes: Brush each pastry kite generously with the beaten egg wash to help achieve a golden brown finish. Spread softened cream cheese evenly in the center of each pastry, then season with salt, pepper, and granulated garlic to enhance flavor. Layer the jalapeño slices over the cream cheese, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded Colby Jack cheese and your choice of shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese. Finally, top each pastry with a sprinkle of panko bread crumbs for added texture.
- Bake: Place the assembled pastries in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 18-22 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown, flaky, and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving to allow the filling to set.
Notes
- Adjust jalapeño quantity based on your preferred spice level, removing seeds for milder heat.
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened for easy spreading and better texture.
- Use fresh puff pastry squares and thaw them completely for best puffing results.
- Brush the edges of the pastry generously with egg wash to enhance browning and crispiness.
- Panko bread crumbs add a delightful crunch on top but can be omitted if preferred.
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.
