Description

Magic Cookie Bars are a classic American dessert featuring a buttery graham cracker crust layered with sweetened condensed milk, semisweet chocolate chips, coconut flakes, and chopped nuts. These chewy, rich bars are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

Filling and Topping

  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk (such as Eagle Brand)
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/3 cups flaked sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (or 325°F if using a glass baking dish) to ensure even cooking and perfect texture.
  2. Prepare Crust: Pour the melted butter into a 13×9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter, then press crumbs firmly into the bottom of the pan to create an even crust layer.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust, ensuring it covers the entire surface without pooling.
  4. Layer Toppings: Evenly layer the semisweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped nuts over the condensed milk. Press down firmly with the back of a spoon to compact the layers gently.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the edges turn lightly browned and the bars are set.
  6. Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack to firm up. Once cooled, cut into 24 bars and serve.

Notes

  • Substitute different flavored chocolate chips like butterscotch or white chocolate for a twist.
  • Use almonds instead of walnuts for a different nutty flavor.
  • Chill bars before slicing for cleaner, neater cuts.
