Description

This Lasagna Dip is a crowd-pleasing appetizer that combines all the classic flavors of traditional lasagna into a creamy, cheesy dip perfect for parties or casual gatherings. Featuring a savory blend of ground beef, marinara sauce, and a luscious cream cheese mixture, this baked dip delivers a comforting and irresistible taste served warm with crusty bread, crackers, or chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage (or a mix of both)
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)

Creamy Cheese Layer

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided

For Serving and Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Crusty bread, crackers, or chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat: Heat a little oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage along with the chopped onion. Cook, breaking up the meat as it browns, until the meat is fully cooked and the onion has softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add Seasonings and Sauce: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, dried oregano, and dried basil. Pour in the marinara sauce and let the mixture simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors. Remove from heat.
  3. Prepare the Creamy Layer: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream, stirring until smooth and creamy. Add half of the shredded mozzarella and half of the grated Parmesan cheese, mixing until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Dip: Spread the creamy cheese mixture evenly across the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish. Layer the meat and marinara sauce mixture evenly on top. Finally, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the meat layer.
  5. Bake the Dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  6. Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve warm with crusty bread, crackers, or chips for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, increase the red pepper flakes or use spicy Italian sausage.
  • Make ahead: You can prepare the dip assembly a few hours in advance, cover with foil, and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with sautéed mushrooms or a meatless crumble alternative.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting and flavor.
