Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Coating
- 12 oz flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Noodles and Sauce
- 8 oz noodles (lo mein, udon, or spaghetti)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Garnish
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the noodles: Prepare the noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain them well and set aside to keep warm.
- Prepare the beef: Pat the flank steak slices dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness. Toss the beef slices evenly with the cornstarch to coat completely.
- Fry the beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. In batches if necessary, add the coated beef slices in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn crispy and browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté aromatics: Lower the heat to medium. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, making sure not to burn them.
- Make the sauce: Stir in the soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for about 2 minutes until it slightly thickens.
- Toss noodles and beef: Return the cooked noodles and crispy beef back to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat the noodles and beef evenly with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until everything is heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, let the coated beef sit for 10 minutes before frying to help the cornstarch adhere better.
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or ribeye for a different texture and flavor.
- This dish reheats well but is best enjoyed fresh to maintain the crispy texture of the beef.
