Ingredients
Scale
Beef Coating
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Stir-fry
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Coat the beef: In a large bowl, combine the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper. Thoroughly coat the thinly sliced beef sirloin pieces in this dry mixture to ensure a crispy texture when cooked.
- Fry the beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the coated beef slices until golden brown and crispy, usually taking 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove the beef and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Mix the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar until smooth and well combined. Set aside.
- Sauté aromatics: Carefully remove most of the oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and sauté briefly until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Cook the peppers: Add the sliced red and green bell peppers to the skillet and stir-fry until they are tender but still crisp, roughly 3-4 minutes.
- Combine and coat: Return the crispy beef to the skillet with the peppers. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables, tossing everything together well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to warm through and allow the flavors to meld.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the top as a fresh and nutty garnish. Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy texture and bold flavors.
Notes
- For extra crunch, make sure the beef slices are patted dry before coating them with the flour mixture.
- Do not overcrowd the pan when frying the beef; cook in batches to maintain crispiness.
- You can adjust the heat level by adding more or less sweet chili sauce or incorporating a few chili flakes.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days but may lose some crispiness.
