Ingredients
Scale
Spinach Dip Mixture
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dough and Toppings
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Make the Spinach Dip Filling: In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix the cream cheese, sour cream, Parmesan, mozzarella, spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined and creamy. Set aside.
- Roll Out First Dough Layer: Roll out one can of crescent roll dough directly onto the prepared baking sheet, pinching the seams together to form one continuous sheet of dough as the base.
- Add the Filling Layer: Evenly spread the prepared spinach dip over the dough layer, leaving a half-inch border around the edges to help with sealing.
- Layer Second Dough Sheet: Roll out the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it over the spinach dip layer. Gently press the edges to seal the two dough layers together and encase the filling.
- Shape into Christmas Tree: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into a large triangle shape resembling a Christmas tree. Reserve extra dough to create decorative accents if desired.
- Create Tree Branches: Cut horizontal slices along each side of the triangle, leaving about a 1-inch wide trunk in the center intact. Twist each cut strip to form the look of tree branches.
- Apply Egg Wash and Toppings: Brush the entire tree generously with the beaten egg wash to achieve a golden shine during baking. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or additional grated Parmesan if you like extra flavor and texture.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake the breadstick tree in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the dough is puffed up and golden brown. After baking, allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving for best taste and texture.
Notes
- Ensure the spinach is thoroughly drained to prevent soggy breadsticks.
- Feel free to add chopped water chestnuts or artichokes to the dip for extra crunch and flavor.
- Use a pizza cutter for clean and easy shaping of the dough.
- The leftover dough scraps can be baked as mini breadsticks or themed decorations.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce or ranch for dipping.
